COMMERCIAL MEDIATION IN SERBIA

This project is implemented with the goal of providing technical assistance to promote the use of mediation in business disputes in Serbia, in line with the Law on Mediation adopted in 2014. Specifically, the project focuses on assisting the Mediation Centre at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia to revive and strengthen its operations and to raise awareness on mediation among the business community, as well as the Judicial Training Academy of Serbia to carry out mediation skills training for court mediators.

SELECT ACTIVITIES

  • Developing and delivering an intensive three-day mediation Train the Trainers Workshop for the Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Serbia and the Judicial Academy.
  • Follow-up Practice Development Review Sessions held for ToT Workshop participants.

SELECT RESULTS

ADR Center’s extensive experience in educating mediators within the context of establishment of dispute resolution programs has been very instrumental for this program. Therefore, the main goals of the ToT Workshop focused on the development of trainees’ knowledge and skills, so that they have been able to design, develop and deliver effective mediation training programs as trainers. This has been realized by using different learning tools, like lectures on curriculum development and presentation and facilitation skills, interactive discussions focused on the theoretical and practical approaches of the mediation training process, role-play simulations of commercial cases and practical exercises.

The training program’s curricula included a logical succession of topics, starting with mediation fundamentals, adult learning principles, developing mediation training programs, designing, and facilitating discussions, role-plays, and exercises, as well as advanced mediation techniques. The training program included equal opportunities for participants to practice each topic. The program started and ended with a test that measured the participants’ performance.

All the trainees attended the workshop for its full duration, were enthusiastic and able to acquire attitude, knowledge and skills that are conducive to the successful design, development and delivery of a foundation mediation training program.
