Manon Schonewille

Manon Schonewille is a highly experienced commercial business mediator since 1996, IMI Certified Mediator and IMI Certified Mediation Advocate, MfN register mediator, as well as name partner at S&S Business Mediation office in Rotterdam The Netherlands.

Throughout four continents, Manon Schonewille has mediated commercial cases and trained and taught professionals in the advanced use of mediation and negotiation techniques, especially in intercultural settings. She consults with individual professionals, corporations and governmental organizations about conflict management, negotiation and setting up Dispute Prevention programs. In addition to this, she is founder and partner in a dispute resolution and deal making training and resource center Toolkit Company | The Legal Rebel Company.

Her specialty lies in B2B and cross-border mediation. Manon supports corporations, partnerships and professional service organisations in finding negotiated outcomes for commercial disputes:

  • Conflicts within partnerships or regarding termination of a partnership, collaboration or other contractual relationships.
  • Processes with several representatives or parties involved including team-mediations.
  • Cross-border disputes or negotiations involving parties from several countries or cultures.

Through her legal background combined with experience as a business owner and an international marketing manager for multinationals in several countries, she is able to work with and understand the perspective of both the legal counsel and the business side.

After graduation of the law faculty of Groningen University in the Netherlands, Manon worked in international marketing and business strategy in several countries for multinational organizations among which were Nestlé and Schering. Here the foundation was laid for her interest in international negotiation, dispute resolution, and conflict management.

She completed Negotiation and Advanced Negotiation courses as part of the Program of Instruction for Lawyers at Harvard Law School and completed the credentialing program at the National Conflict Resolution Center (NCRC) in San Diego. Manon also participated in the project “Rethinking Negotiation Teaching” a multi-‐-year effort of Hamline University to critique contemporary negotiation pedagogy and to create new training programs for a second generation of global negotiation education.

Besides being a frequently asked speaker at international conferences and a guest lecturer at various universities, she publishes regularly and is an author of several books. She is the past co-‐-chair of the International Committee of the Dispute Resolution Section of the American Bar Association (ABA) and is Chair of the IMI Mediation Advocacy Task Force.
